SSDI Explained
Benefits when work is no longer possible
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a federal benefit program that provides monthly financial support to individuals who are unable to work due to a serious, long-term, or permanent medical condition. To qualify, the person must have previously worked and contributed to the Social Security system through payroll taxes.
Monthly benefit amounts vary depending on work and earnings history. In addition to financial support, individuals approved for SSDI may become eligible for Medicare coverage after a qualifying waiting period.
